Fenway Flop: Indians Lose 9th Inning Walk-Off to Red Sox 12-10; Three Takeaways From the Loss

1. Failure to Hold the Lead

The Indians looked to put their last two days of offensive woes behind them, as they built a 5-0 lead before the Sox even got to bat twice, but just like that Carlos Carrasco gave it all right back, and the game was 5-5 after two innings.

Edwin Encarnación homered to left in the 5th to make it a 7-5 game in favor of the Indians, but again the pen couldn’t hold it, and saw Boston eventually score four in the 6th to take a 9-7 lead.

In the 9th the Tribe was able to push across two runs to take a 10-9 lead, and Cody Allen came on to try and close it out, but the Sox got new life after Mitch Moreland reached first after a strikeout that Yan Gomes couldn’t pull in.

Vazquez would make it count, as he blasted a three-run homer which was more than enough, sending Boston to a huge win while the Indians were left scratching their heads at another game they should have won that slipped away.
