10 Fantasy Tips to Help You Win Your Fantasy Football League in 2016 (21-30)

Stephen Gostkowski

23.) Don’t Draft A Kicker Before The Final Two Rounds

Just don’t do it people. Kickers are the most inconsistent position in fantasy football. The Patriots can beat the Browns 35-3 but Coons can hit a 50 yarder and Gostkowski makes 5 XPs and they tie in fantasy scoring. Go figure? It doesn’t matter how well the offense does the kicker does not necessarily benefit. There are better and more reliable positions out there. Most people will say take the kicker in the last round but I say the last two and here’s why. I like kickers if you are picking towards the end of the second to last round. The difference between getting a player in the second to last round and the last round is pretty minimal, but if everyone waits for a kicker that could be the difference between K3 and K7. That becomes more significant. If you pick towards the beginning of the second to last round, you may decide you want a kicker but the gap of getting a worse player also increases compared to the kicker wildcard. It might be best to take the player and get whatever is left at the end for a kicker. Kickers tend to be cut casualties and there was a lot of it last year. No sense in picking one early if you’re not getting your pick of the top five or so and even that is a risk for guys not named Stephen Gostkowski.

24.) Don’t Have Two Kickers

Having two kickers on one team is something I’ve seen and don’t understand. Once again there is about zero reliability to kickers. They might have no field goal attempts or they may have five chances. Predicting who gets to kick field goals and who doesn’t is like playing the lottery. So why waste a roster spot on a position up to chance? I don’t get it.

25.) Only Have Two Kickers If You Have A Top 5 K On Bye

Here is my only exception to the two kicker rule. You can have two kickers for one week if you have a really good kicker and he is on a bye. It’s hard finding players at the top of their position on waivers. Chances are you might have one player on your roster that doesn’t see the field and is worth dropping and taking the chance you can pick him back up the following week for a one week kicker rental. There’s nothing worse than starting a player down because he’s on a bye. If you got lucky and secured one of the top kickers on the season, go ahead and keep him and take your chances he has a good week every week. If you didn’t luck out and are in a deeper league, you might want to play the matchups each week and continually add and drop as needed.
