Grading the 31 Picks of the First Round of the 2016 NFL Draft

DeForest Buckner

7.) San Francisco 49ers- DeForest Buckner DE Oregon
Grade: A

The 49ers made the right selection here. He was the best player on the board and is an absolute animal at 6’7” 291 pounds. Plus, it’s another Oregon Duck going to Chip Kelly. He’s an ideal fit for a 3-4 defense with the ability to plug different gaps and be a threat in both the run and pass game. He’s the first start towards rebuilding the 49ers defense back to what it once was.

8.) Tennessee Titans- Jack Conklin OT Michigan State
Grade: C+

The Titans needed an OT and I predicted they would move up to get one. Unfortunately for them, Tunsil posting that video made the Ravens go with Stanley so they end up with the third best OT instead of the second. I thought the value they gave up was fair for the trade but it was still a little high for Conklin.

9.) Chicago Bears- Leonard Floyd OLB Georgia
Grade: C-

The Bears traded up for him but I’m not sold on him like the other draft experts are. Barkevious Mingo and his lack of size and secondary moves come to mind when I look at Floyd. He was best suited for a 3-4 defense where he can use his speed to make plays.
