Grading the 31 Picks of the First Round of the 2016 NFL Draft

1.) Los Angeles Rams- Jared Goff QB California
Grade: C

The Rams got desperate and gave up way too much to get into the number one overall spot. While that trade was horrible, this pick is just average. Goff is likely the best QB in the draft but the QBs this year aren’t that great compared to years past. While they get credit for getting their franchise QB, Goff isn’t a lock with some development still to do.

2.) Philadelphia Eagles- Carson Wentz QB North Dakota State
Grade: D-

The Eagles are one of the dumbest organizations in this draft. They just gave 34 million dollars guaranteed to Sam Bradford and Chase Daniel. I don’t know how they can justify paying those guys that kind of money while giving up a lot of assets including a first round pick to add a third QB to the roster that is coming from the FCS level and missed almost all of his senior season. While he really helped himself in the offseason, he is still a major reach at this point. The only thing saving it from being an F is that it is possibly their new franchise QB.

3.) San Diego Chargers- Joey Bosa DE Ohio State
Grade: B-

Everybody can rip their mock drafts up now because nobody linked Bosa to San Diego until right before the draft. The Chargers had their pick of any non-QB in the draft and they decided to go with Bosa. They had pressing needs at OT, S, and in run defense. Bosa was a talented college player but he does have character concerns and he has a ceiling with his athletic abilities. What he does offer versatility and somebody who can help the Chargers sack total there were still better players.
