Boys HS Hoops: Revere Defeats Barberton 74-70 In Overtime Thriller

BARBERTON, OHIO – Despite their significant height disadvantage, Barberton didn’t back down from arguably the top team in the Suburban League Tuesday night.

The Magics were impressive early on, using sharp playmaking and swarming defense to pick up several quick transition buckets. They jumped ahead of Revere 21-14 after one, and increased their lead to 35-26 at halftime.

Revere dominated the third quarter, outscoring the upset-minded Magics 21-5 in the frame. With the Minutemen looking poised to pull away, Barberton came back fighting.

Anthony Cook Jr, who finished the game with 21 points, 6 rebounds, and 5 assists, was a key part of the fourth quarter comeback. The impressive junior hit several big shots down the stretch to keep his team in the ballgame.

After a steal and a timeout, Barberton elected to put the ball in the hands of Bradley Eagle, who faked the corner three and found Santino Fox in the paint. With the clock running out, Fox baited the defender then made a layup to end regulation.

The 6-foot-8 Hunter Drenth and company took care of business in overtime, after Drenth made a layup and added a couple of free throws in bonus basketball. Revere escaped Barberton with a 74-70 victory.

Revere improves to 3-0, and will host Medina Highland (1-3) on Friday. Barberton falls to 2-1, and will visit Copley (0-2) on Friday as well.
