Jamar Ross Named Associate AD for Business Affairs at Cleveland State

CLEVELAND, Ohio – Jamar Ross, who has more than 17 years of experience as an administrator in college athletics, has been named the Associate Athletics Director for Business Affairs at Cleveland State University.

Ross will begin his duties on Nov. 13, replacing Tom Tontimonia who retired on Oct. 31 after 38 years at CSU.

“I am thrilled to welcome Jamar to Cleveland State University,” CSU Director of Athletics Mike Thomas said. “He brings a wealth of knowledge and experience and will be an extremely valuable asset to our business operation. Jamar has a strong track record in athletics business and his experience in multiple areas will greatly benefit CSU athletics.”

In his role at CSU, Ross will serve as the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and be responsible for the development, preparation, execution and management of annual operating budget.

“I am extremely excited for the opportunity to join the Cleveland State athletic department,” Ross said. “Director of Athletics Mike Thomas has a clear vision of where he wants to take the program and I am looking forward to being a big part of it.”

Ross most recently served as the Assistant Athletics Director for Finance & Administration at Rutgers since 2012 where he oversaw operational budgets and worked closely with the Big Ten and NCAA on various reports. He also worked closely with the RU Foundation to finance special projects and had financial oversight for select capital projects and renovations.

From 2009-12, Ross was the Assistant Athletics Director for Business Operations at Norfolk State where he monitored and managed the department’s annual operating budget.

Ross began his career in college athletics as the Sports Information Director at Hampton from 2002-07 and served as the Associate Director of Sports Information at Old Dominion from 2007-09.

Ross earned a Bachelor’s of Science in Sports Management from Winston-Salem State University in 1999 and a Master’s of Science in Sports Management in 2008 from Old Dominion.

He also completed the NCAA Leadership Institute for Ethnic Minority in 2008.
