CSU’s Destiny Leo is Horizon League’s POTY

Photo by Tim Phillis, News Herald

Destiny Leo from Eastlake North is this yearโ€™s Horizon League Player of the Year for Cleveland State.

Destinyโ€™s honor is fitting as CSU continues their fantastic season. Even though Green Bay was the regular season champion for the league (18-2), the Vikings set program firsts with their 27-4 record and 17-3 conference totals.

The Eastlake North graduate didnโ€™t get a chance to star at the Ohio High School tournament due to COVID-19, but she is making up for that lost season with her time in the NCAA.

Horizon League Statistics for Leo

Leo led the Horizon league in scoring (19.3 ppg), triples per game (2.6), and triple percentage (39.8%). From the field, she is over 40% for her shooting average and 91.9% from the charity stripe. Not only is the 91.9% a league leading figure, but itโ€™s #2 in all of Women’s NCAA basketball in 2023. Leoโ€™s 160 attempts to date is first in the nation!

Leo’s Teammates awarded!

Leoโ€™s teammates made news, too. Deja Williams, won the 6th Player of the Year award! Makiya Miller joined the list as a member of the all freshman team. Barbara Zieniewska made the All-Defensive team.

How cool is that?

Gotta get the merch!

Next game and tickets!

CSU will host a quarterfinal game against a league team on March 2nd at the Wolstein Center.

Hope to see you all soon!
