Could Markieff Morris Be the Missing Link to a Cavs’ Championship? The Pros and Cons of Trading for the Power Forward from Phoenix

As of January 20th, there is no trade imminent, but it is certainly not out of the realm of possibility. The Cavs have two crucial matchups at home in the next week that could provide even more reason to sway the decision to trade for Morris one way or the other.

Thursday night, the Cavs take on the red-hot Los Angeles Clippers, who are clicking on all cylinders.

Saturday night, the Cavs face the Chicago Bulls, who already beat Cleveland on opening night in the Windy City, the only time they faced each other this season.

These are two games that as foolish as it may sound, are as close to must-win as you will find in January.

The noise surrounding the Cavaliers 0-3 record against Golden State and San Antonio will only get louder if they slip up in even one of these two big matchups.

The Cavs take on Brooklyn on Wednesday night and the Timberwolves on Monday night. Interestingly enough, the Phoenix Suns come to town Wednesday, January 27th. It would not be the first time that players have switched locker rooms when coming to a city under the impression they’d be playing in a different color jersey before the game started.

Maybe January 27th is a day to watch for and the Cavs will be clearing a locker for Morris while his flight touches down.

Three days later, the Cavs have their biggest test of the rest of the regular season, when the Spurs come to Cleveland. If the Cavs are swept by Golden State and San Antonio in four head-to-head matches, there will be little reason to argue that the Cavs are on par with those teams.

The Spurs don’t appear to be slowing down any time soon. Nor do the Warriors. The Cavs are at a crossroads of sorts, and how they respond to the “good, old-fashioned ass-kicking” will show what this team is made of.

Does the general manager make a move to address a weakness?

Is it simply a change in coaching philosophy or the players producing more?

What do the Cavs really have to lose by making the move?

As someone who doesn’t see this team at the level or even with the potential of reaching the level of San Antonio and Golden State as the Cavalier roster is currently constructed, I don’t see why it would hurt to try it.

If you need any other reasons, please refer to this. Dear Kevin, I’m not doing this to pick on you. I want you to win a ring. And I want you to have some help.
