Bieber Stops the Yankees as Indians Early Offense Enough in 6-5 Win; Three Takeaways

3. Applause for the Pen

The worst pen in baseball did its job on Friday night, despite closer Cody Allen getting into what could have been disastrous trouble in the 9th inning after allowing a solo homer to Gio Stanton to start the inning.

Allen with the Indians up 6-5 gave up a single to Greg Bird, and then pitched his way into the biggest play of the game, getting Miguel Andujar to ground out into a huge double play.

Of course it wouldn’t be that easy, as Allen then walked Neil Walker with two outs, but got Didi Gregorius to pop out to end the game, earning his 19th save.

Add to that the outing for both Oliver Perez and Neil Raimrez, who got out of the 8th inning without any damage.

These are the types of outings this unit needs on a nightly basis.
