Why the Browns Should Not Trade Joe Thomas or Alex Mack

San Diego Chargers v Green Bay Packers

Let’s go on about some of the best teams in the league this year and how they have gotten there.

The Green Bay Packers are probably the greatest in house operating team in the NFL. If I were to tell you to take a guess on how many players on the Packers have played for another team I bet 99% of you would get it wrong. The answer is three. Yes only three players have played for a team other than the Packers.

They have been able to resign all their key guys including players like Aaron Rodgers, Reggie Cobb, Bryan Bulaga, Clay Matthews, Jordy Nelson, and Mason Crosby to name a few.

They also don’t wait for contract years either to wait and see if they struggle and can get a discount. They are aggressive and get it done early. This is why they are among the top of the NFL every year.

They have been able to draft well and they lock up their guys. They don’t use free agency often but when you are able to find the talent they do in house than they don’t have the need to. Julius Peppers has been their only recent one and he was a great signing.

We can also look at Seattle. The Seahawks have been able to do it with a balance of all three. They have been able to draft quality talent with guys like Russell Wilson, Kam Chancellor, Richard Sherman, Bobby Wagner, and Earl Thomas.

Guess what, they locked all of those guys up long term as well. They have also used free agency and trades to compliment the team adding guys like Jimmy Graham, Marshawn Lynch, Michael Bennett, and Cliff Avril.

They also have coaches that schemed around their guys. The Legion of Boom got its name for a reason. Russell Wilson also has incredible legs and they took advantage of that.

It was a long time since we saw the option read in the NFL, but the Seahawks used it with Wilson and it was a huge advantage for them. Instead you have teams like the Browns that are not trying to capitalize on Johnny Manziel’s legs and try and force him to be a pocket passer. If I was the Browns I would let him roll out and use his legs to his advantage.
