Stephen Thompson vs. Jorge Masvidal- Stephen Thompson was one of the more intriguing fighters in the Welterweight division due to his Karate background. With a chance to finish a fight with a swift kick at the right time, “Wonderboy” made a lot of opponents think twice about keeping distance with him. Then would come the double whammy, as fighters would close the gap and pay for it with Thompson’s electric striking. Thompson was a dangerous draw for any fighter…until Tyron Woodley exposed him twice.
The gameplan was quite simple: Close the gap, tee off, take him down. It worked to perfection twice and has since sent “Wonderboy” to the back of the line following two unsuccessful title shots.
Jorge Masvidal is very underrated and can scrap with anyone on his feet. His wrestling may not be elite, but he can definitely hold his own. If he can implement the same game plan that Woodley executed, we could see “Gamebred” pull off the upset victory.
