Munch Musings from E. 53rd St. and Hamm Ave on Guardians & Cavs

Welcome to the glorious almighty weekend! Need to talk about the Cleveland Guardians and Cleveland Cavaliers!

Let’s commence commencin’ with the GUARDS and some early thoughts!

* The team is playing FUN baseball. Great to watch. In fact, they are playing Cleveland Baseball, putting pressure on the opponents as much as possible. The team is playing for each other, which is very important for a winner. They are NOT out of games no matter the deficit!

* The team is 9-3 and has won every series. Do that or split them on the road and great things happen.

* The team was down 5-0 two nights in a row to a challenged White Sox team. Fans may have been bummed but the guys with reppin’ #TheCLE were not fazed. I will say that Chicago has some sticks plus Eloy Jimenez and Luis Robert Jr are on the IL but other than Michael Kopech the arms are very substandard, and defense is flat out bad. Logan Allen was shockingly bad, and he really needs to step up. He was getting in front of the hitters then BAM! I will go “red neck” on this point, and it is HOW THE HECK ARE GUARDS HURLERS CONSISTENTLY WALKING THE LEAD OFF MAN? Guess what? THEY SCORE!

* The deficit did not faze the good guys as they bounced back with 2 in the bottom of the first. It needs to be pointed out that in the lineup hitters 1 through 4 are as good as they get! Bo and Brayan will get better at the bottom of the order but a stronger 5,6 and 7 is imperative. I feel Freeman is gonna hit but not as a #5 guy. BTW he needs to play CF just about every night.

* Yes, the GUARDIANS came back both nights only to have Scott Barlow bring a gas can out of the bullpen instead of a fire house on Tuesday. Scott has 2 of the teams 3 losses and I still question the deal that brought him to THE LAND for Enyel De Los Santos!

* Someone else who experienced difficulties last year and sadly picked right back up on the dark side is Eli Morgan. I like the kid, and enjoyed his pitching early on but he cannot be used in any close games. Let him eat innings in blow outs for either side but he is disappointing. Need Hentges, Lively and Curry back ASAP.

* OK, the New York Yankees are in town and they are a very good team. This is a BIG DEAL! This is a huge early test for the young Guardians!

* NY starting pitching leaves me shrugging my shoulders with Cole out plus Stroman struggled Wednesday but the lineup is potent once again.

* Bottom line the Cleveland Guardians cannot make mistakes, play to keep runners scoring (big mistake the other day with a man on third the Chisox sent their man on first to steal second and the Guards ignored the runner on third). Bo had a passed ball vs the Twins and a huge baserunning gaff but no doubt his youthful exuberance and love of the game will be harnessed.

* Also, starters MUST work through the 5th and hopefully into if not finish the 6th. I know it is early in the season but need some staying power!

Time for some CAVS COMMENTS!

This one is simple…The Cleveland Cavaliers have two games left in the regular season and both are at home and they MUST WIN BOTH GAMES.

* Bottom line it is on the CAVS to finish in 2nd or lower than they are now at the 5th spot. WIN YOUR LAST 2 GAMES!

* The Pacers are 1 game behind the CAVS and that is tonight’s opponent. They are very good.

* Sunday the Hornets come to town, and they are awful and yes, this bad team beat Cleveland 118-111 in Charlotte on March 27th.

* I also must ask if these two games have a bearing on the Head Coach of the Cavs. Many see him gone, especially after the team lost a 26-point lead and fell to the Clippers in LA last Sunday. OUCH…that one hurt really bad. Some say JB has lost the team. I’m not buying that, but good grief put the hammer down and finish teams! Keep your foot on the gas.

What am I asking for this weekend in #TheCLE? That the Guards take 2 of 3 from the Yankees and the Cavs win out. Not that demanding.
