By J.C. Hibbs

BARBERTON, OHIO – On a beautiful night in Barberton Oh the Barberton Magics improved to 4-1, as they took care of business with a solid win over the Revere Minutemen (3-2) 48-7.

The Magics were able to overcome five penalties in the first quarter. The Magic defense was dominant with two interceptions and a fumble recovery.

Barberton’s Nick Plucinski recovered the fumble and Tim Starcher picked off one of the two passes from Revere quarterback Nate Klonowski.

The Barberton offense was able to capitalize on all the turnovers plus adding some touchdowns to build a lead.

QB Chase Haywood was 12-for-15 for 215 yards three touchdowns and an interception. Kaeleb Vega scored three times for Barberton, as he took the opening kickoff for a touchdown.

In the first half Vega had a pair of catches for 12 yards, for two scores, and one run for three yards and a touchdown.

Starcher was dynamic in the first half with three rushes for 35 yards and a grab for 29 yards and a touchdown. He also caught a two-point conversion to make it 14-0 at the time.

The Minutemen were only able to gather 12 yards of offense in the first half, as they were outplayed and trailed 42-0 at the intermission.

The start of the 3rd quarter showed promise for the minutemen taking the first drive down the field and ending it with a touchdown by Shane Slattery making it 42-7.

The second team offense of the Magic didn’t generate much, ending the third quarter with Barberton ahead 42-7.

At the start of the 4th quarter Kaige Lowe of Barberton intercepted the pass of Klonowski setting up a five-yard touchdown run by Mason Dewitt making it 48-7.

That ened up being the final score as seconds ticked away giving Barberton the win to push their mark to 4-1 on the season with the 41-point win.

I was able to talk to # 2 Tim Starcher after the game, I asked him what he thought about his performance tonight and what he thinks the outlook of the magic look like. He said

“First it starts with our defense, when all 11 guys are making plays then we are dangerous,” Barberton’s Starcher said after the win.

“It is our job on offense to capitalize and score and we felt we did that. We just have to take it one game at a time”

The Magic look like a force as they look to reach the postseason, and in week six they will battle Copley on the road. Revere will look to rebound as they will take on Highland at home.
