Chagrin Falls Produces Goals Aplenty, Defeats Brecksville-Broadview Heights 7-1

PARMA, Ohio- The winner of Chagrin Falls and Brecksville-Broadview Heights would advance to the Championship Game in Normandy’s Bruce Anderson Memorial Tournament, Both teams looked tough in their first-round victories, winning by different methods in their opening battles.

For Brecksville-Broadview Heights, it was an excellent showing by their freshman goaltender Justin Blauman. Blauman shut out an Avon offense that was lethal just a year prior and provided Head Coach Tony O’Neil a trusted hand early on in the Bees’ 2017-18 campaign. Chagrin Falls operated in a similar manner, relying on their back line to handle business while their inexperienced offense found themselves.

On Saturday night, it was all about the offense of Chagrin Falls.

Garrin Bunker got the Tigers on the board first at the 2:35 mark, as teammate Chase Lowry followed and found the back of the net on a putback attempt inside the goalie crease of Blauman at the 8:29 mark. The frame was essentially even in terms of shots on goal, as Chagrin Falls held a slim advantage, 8-7. One thing that won’t show up on the stat sheet is how much pressure the Bees goaltender was under, under duress for most of the frame. A very strong period set the tone for the Tigers and Head Coach Jim Revak.

Brecksville-Broadview Heights would respond within the first two minutes, as Chase Hudock lit up the goal light for a marker at the 1:11 mark. Hudock is one of the promising young freshmen forwards on the Bees and proved his worth on the ice during the semifinal clash. That would be the last time the Bees would score in the contest, however.

Chagrin Falls would tally five straight markers in the final two periods, including a hat-trick from Joe Conway, to defeat Brecksville-Broadview Heights by a final score of 7-1.

Head Coach Jim Revak was very pleased once again with the Chagrin Falls’ front line.

“We’re trying to get ready for the divisional games that are coming up in December so we’re trying different line combinations. We’ve seem to have found something. I’ve got a Sophomore that’s producing really well and our freshmen are starting to at least look to make a pass to the older guys and we’re getting some good production out of them.”

With his Junior goal-scoring machine Joe Conway making life easier for the younger guys, Revak is able to see what’s working and who’s emerging as big-time players for his squad.

Chagrin Falls takes on the winner of North Olmsted/Orange in the Bruce Anderson Memorial Championship Game on Monday night at 8pm.
