The Texas Rangers won the 2023 World Series on Wednesday night as they defeated the Arizona Diamondbacks 5-0.

After both teams split games one and two, the Rangers won three straight games to claim the 2023 World Series Championship.

Throughout the 2023 baseball season, the Rangers focused on playing baseball with a high level of cohesion and team chemistry.

In fact, the Rangers players talked about the ‘Pass the Baton’ mentality throughout the World Series.

The 2023 World Series MVP, Corey Seager, described this mindset after winning the World Series on Wednesday night.

“It’s a group effort,” said Seager. “The ability for us to pass baton mentality all year. We talked about it in Spring Training and to be able to carry it over in the biggest moments, we said, you don’t always have to be the guy that day, which is stress relieving.”

Rangers outfielder Travis Jankowski provided an example of how the pass the baton mentality was evident at the start of spring training.

“I think Spring training, you go in that clubhouse, and me being one of the new guys, it’s one of those things it took me about 12 hours to figure out that this was going to be a special team,” said Jankowski. “Everyone going out of their way, regardless of status or stardom on this team making me feel comfortable. That right there is when I knew we had a special group and the talent speaks for itself. You can have all the talent in the world, but if your team doesn’t mesh, if you don’t have great guys in the clubhouse who want to win for each other, stuff doesn’t happen. So, yeah, I knew the roster coming in. I knew we had a good roster. I didn’t really know anyone on a personal level, but like I said, it didn’t take me too long to realize that we had a special group in there.”

The ‘Pass the Baton Mentality was evident’ in Game 5 as the Rangers stayed together and battled through the adversity of being no-hit through the first six innings.

In the seventh inning, Seager started a rally by getting a hit on a 1-2 count with no outs. Evan Carter then doubled to right field on an 82 mph knuckle curve that was out over the middle of the plate. Mitch Garver drove in the first run with a single as the Rangers took a 1-0 lead.

After a scoreless eighth inning, the Rangers scored four runs in the ninth inning which was highlighted by Marcus Semien’s two run home run.

And after the last out of the bottom of the ninth inning, the Texas Rangers celebrated winning their first World Series ever in team history.
