Lake Erie Monsters Calder Cup Finals Schedule Released

CLEVELAND – The city of Cleveland will have not one, but two teams competing for a championship at Quicken Loans Arena this June.

In addition to the Cleveland Cavaliers taking on the Golden State Warriors in The NBA Finals, Cleveland’s Lake Erie Monsters will be competing in the team’s first-ever American Hockey League Calder Cup Finals.

Thanks to a four-game sweep of the defending Calder Cup Champion Ontario Reign in the Western Conference Finals, the Monsters will square off vs. the AHL’s Eastern Conference Champions, the Hershey Bears, in a best-of-seven, winner-take-all series.

The Bears, winners of an AHL-record 12 Calder Cup Championships throughout the 80-year history of the league, will have home-ice advantage in the Calder Cup Finals, to be played in a 2-3-2 series format. The Monsters will be aiming to secure their first Calder Cup in franchise history, and the tenth overall for the city of Cleveland (the Cleveland Barons won nine championships from 1939 through 1964).

Hershey and Cleveland hold the first and second-most all-time Calder Cup championship crowns and 2016 marks Cleveland’s fifteenth appearance in the Calder Cup Finals and first since 1966.

The Monsters and Bears will begin play on Wednesday, June 1st at 7:00 pm EST at the Giant Center in Hershey, Pennsylvania. The first home game at The Q will on Monday, June 6th at 7:00 pm EST.
