Max Holloway Finishes Jose Aldo With Third-Round Knockout To Retain UFC Featherweight Championship; Five Takeaways From UFC 218: Holloway vs. Aldo

5. Torres, Herrig Position Themselves For Strawweight Title Contention- Tecia Torres and Felice Herrig were both victorious in their fights on Saturday. Torres picked apart Michelle Waterson to open the main card while Herrig duked out Cortney Casey on the FS1 prelims. After an excellent showing by both women, it now adds new blood to the title picture at 115 pounds.

Both fighters were ranked in the top-ten to start the night and now have a nice position amongst their peers. With new champ Rose Namajunas looking for an opponent, Torres and Herrig have made their claims through their fists. The first title shot could go to former champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk but after that, it’s anyone’s guess. Torres is probably looking at a matchup against Claudia Gadehla or Jessica Andrade while Herrig can test her chops against Karolina Kowalkiewicz. It’s a new climate in the Women’s Strawweight Division and the fresh talent should be testing the top guns more often than not.
