Munch Musings from E. 53rd St. and Hamm Ave: Guards & Cavs Edition

Here we go. Many you know the Dickens novel “A Tale of Two Cities” well this is a tale of two teams. Let’s talk good first since it is a glorious Sunday morning. No, I am not putting my head in the sand as Earle Bruce taught me years ago you do that, and you get your butt kicked.

We’ll start with smiles! Let’s talk about a team worthy of their record and the SECOND-best record in baseball. A team that does not quit and plays for each other. A team that plays a brand of baseball instilled in them by a former Hall of Fame to be skipper. Yes the Cleveland Guardians! The Guards beat the Atlanta Braves in Atlanta last night in 11 innings 4-2. Not only was Bibee brilliant but the team manufactured runs as needed, and the “big boys” played BIG! Right now, the Guardians first four in the lineup are as good as anyone if not the best in baseball! KUDOS to them. Hunter Gaddis faltered out of the pen. However, he has been very good this young season while Clase, Barlow and Sandlin not only picked him up but gave the team a shot to win in extra frames. These fellas are 19-8…19-8!

Here come the frowns in the shape of the Cleveland Cavaliers. I’m hoping they did not sleep well and when they looked at themselves in the mirrors last night they were upset. The Cavs did not take the court in the 2nd half vs. Orlando with a 9-point lead. It was a scene from the Wizard of Oz as the Tin Man, Cowardly Lion and Scare Crown were dressed in Cavs road white unis. Not only were they outscored 20 to 7 in the critical first 6 minutes of the 3rd quarter they were destroyed in every way, shape, and form. Overall, in the 2nd half they were beaten 61-29, which is inexcusable for a professional. YES, JB needed to do something, TO’s, talk them down, show them how they played in the first half, but the bottom line is this is on the players as much as anyone else. They went away from what got them the 9-point lead and they folded like Frankie Yankovic’s accordion when they were punched, shoved, and taunted. Right now they are not accepted in any city neighborhood in #TheCLE! Make amends gents and do it Tuesday.
