An Early Look (and Guess) on What the Indians Do with Their 2018 Free Agents

Joe Smith – Free Agent

A trade deadline pickup, Smith came back to Cleveland with a lot of emotion, and fans were happy to get the sidewinder pitcher back with the team he had great success with before leaving after 2013.

Smith threw in 21 games with the Indians, 18.1 innings, with a 3.44 ERA. He was good with the team, and while he might be given a bigger role if the team brings him back, a lot of it is going to depend on the price.

He wants to be here, and that’s a huge plus for a team that will need a quality veteran arm again in the pen.

Early Guess – Smith will need to take a lot less in order to stay close to home, but here’s thinking he’ll do it, and the Indians will be happy to keep him around with a two-year deal worth about $2.5 million total.
