With Week One Looming, Will Browns Strengthen Wide Receiver Position?

A day after cutting Joe Haden and trading Cameron Erving, the Cleveland Browns might be looking to continue making moves.

According to NFL Network’s Marc Sessler, the team could be looking to improve their wide out position by as soon as today.

As Sessler stated, it’s just a guess at this point. One can only guess when seeing what all the Browns have done in the new regime. Sashi Brown and company have made some intriguing moves since taking over the team. From cutting veterans such as Karlos Dansby and Paul Kruger last season to running with the idea of stockpiling draft picks like a shopper stockpiles snacks at Costco, the Browns have been anything but predictable. But we will try to guess who they might be looking to add.

On Sunday, there were trade rumors circulating around Miami Dolphins Wide Receiver Jarvis Landry, which have since been put to rest after the Dolphins announced they have no interest in trading Landry. However, it would be interesting to see how Miami would respond if the Browns were to offer one of the first-round picks they currently hold in the 2018 NFL Draft. Landry has eclipsed the 1,000-yard mark twice in his three NFL seasons but there have been concerns with him getting into the end zone. Landry has never had more than five receiving touchdowns in his career, which is worrisome if the Browns were to pursue him. Another worry would be the fact that Landry could walk after the season’s end, being that he is an unrestricted free agent.

The next option would be Jermaine Kearse of the Seattle Seahawks. You wouldn’t have to give up too much for Kearse, as he has never been that close to 1,000 receiving yards in a season. A third or fourth option on a Seahawks team that features Doug Baldwin and Tyler Lockett, Kearse has never seen a season with fifty or more receptions during his tenure in Seattle. His most efficient season came back in 2015 when he had 49 receptions for 685 receiving yards and five touchdowns. The 27-year-old would at best sure up the slot for the Browns, as Kearse has not seen much action outside of the numbers in the last few years. For a third or fourth-round pick, the Browns could acquire a guy under team control until 2019.

The last option would be Los Angeles’ Chargers Wide Reciever Dontrelle Inman. With his receptions improving drastically every year, Inman has proven to be a reliable third option in the Chargers cog. Inman went from twelve receptions in 2014 to thirty-five receptions in 2015, ultimately improving that number to 58 catches last year. Totaling 810 receiving yards last season, Inman is by far the best value pickup Cleveland could make. It is also worth noting that last season was Inman’s first full season as a starter in the NFL, which is a reason for his numbers being relatively low the years prior to 2016. Depending on how much the Chargers value the fourth-year pro, the Browns could swoop in and trade for him for a middle-round draft pick.

With a lot of ammunition in terms of draft picks and a need to get better at the receiver position, which of these three options would you like to see the most in Cleveland?
