The Indians were dealt a tough blow on Wednesday as the team announced that starting pitcher Carlos Carrasco has been placed on the non-baseball, medical condition list after being diagnosed with a blood condition.
The club stated in a release that Carrasco is stepping away from the team to explore treatment and recovery options after feeling lethargic the past few weeks.
“We do not know when Carlos will rejoin the club but expect him back at some point this season. At this time, our primary concern is Carlos’ health and we will respect his wishes to keep this a private matter. We ask everyone to keep Carlos and his family in their thoughts during his challenging time.”
This season Carrasco is 4-6 with a 4.98 ERA, and was slated to start tonight’s game against the Twins at Progressive Field.
The Carrasco not available made some roster moves, bringing up relievers Jon Edwards and Nick Goody from AAA Columbus, sending outfielder Greg Allen down to AAA.
The 32-year-old Tribe pitcher signed a four-year contract extension in December of 2018.
