Indians Ink Free Agent OF Daniel Robertson to Minor League Deal; Outright Michael Martinez

The Indians today made two roster moves relative to the 2016 Spring Training roster.

First the team inked free agent outfielder Daniel Robertson to a minor league deal with a non-roster invite to Major League spring training camp.

The team also outrighted utility man Michael Martinez from the 40-man roster.

Robertson, who is 31, spent much of last season in Triple-A Tacoma in the Mariners organization, hitting .287 (117-408) with 19 doubles, 7 triples, 6 home runs and 46 RBI in 114 games (.357/.412/.769). He also appeared in 9 games with the Major League club in July, batting .263 (5-19) with a 2B and RBI.

He appeared in 38 games at second base, 35 games in left field, 29 games in center field and 16 games in right field for the Rainiers. Robertson began his professional career in the San Diego Padres organization (33rd round, 2008 draft, Oregon State) and made his Major League debut with the Texas Rangers in 2014. He was claimed off waivers by Seattle in November 2015 after spending the 2015 season in the Angels organization.

Martinez was up and down, back and forth with the Indians last season, and overall between stints with the Tribe and Red Sox, he hit .242 with a homer and four RBI in 59 games. He will forever be remembered as the last at-bat for the Indians in game seven of the World Series loss to the Cubs, hitting a light ground out to third to end the game.

With the outright of Martinez, the 40-man roster is currently at 39 players.
