Six Run 7th Leads Holy Name Past St. V 12-8

With things all knotted up at 6-6 after six innings, the Green Wave (8-15) exploded for six runs in the seventh inning to beat St. Vincent St. Mary (7-15) 12-8 in sectional semi-final action. Jaedin Hurd went 3-3 at the plate and scored four times to lead the Green Wave into Wednesday’s sectional championship.

First Inning Success!

Holy Name wasted no time getting onto the scoreboard, as Hurd came around to score on an Adam Humenik double to put the Green Wave up 1-0. In the bottom of the first, Max Milkovich led things off with a walk and would score on a double from Devon Lehman to tie things up after one.

Back and forth!

The Irish would strike again in the bottom of the second when a Jakeb Beard sacrifice fly scored Nick Tura to give STVM a one-run lead. In the top of the third, Nick Nemeth led things off with a walk and came around to score on an RBI double from Hurd. Hurd came around to score himself on a sacrifice fly from Jack Topolski to put the Green Wave up 3-2.

STVM threatened in the home half of the third, but wouldn’t crack through again until the fourth. After Shane Adamczyk led off the inning with a double, a groundout from Milkovich would bring him around to score and tie the game at 3-3 after four innings.

Green Wave

Boom go The WAVE!

Just as soon as the Irish tied things up, the Green Wave offense struck big. After the first two hitters of the fifth inning were retired, Hurd would reach base via walk and immediately scored on a Topolski double. Humenik’s second hit of the contest scored Topolski and, after an Aidan Litherland RBI double, Holy Name led 6-3 heading into the bottom of the fifth.

Krabill dons his Naylor Cape!

The Irish, facing a three run deficit, loaded the bases with one out in the bottom of the sixth inning. Up came Daniel Krabill who crushed a three-run, RBI triple to the wall to draw the Irish back even at 6-6.

Green Wave rolls the Irish!

In their final at-bats of the game, the Green Wave blew the game wide open. In total, seven Holy Name hitters reached base in the inning and six of them came around to score, extending their lead to 12-6 heading to the bottom of the seventh.

The Irish refused to go down without a fight, as Tyler Slone led off the inning with a walk and came around to score on a Tura double. Tura would later score on a single by Milkovich, but the STVM rally fell short, falling to Holy Name 12-8.

With the win, Holy Name advances to Wednesday’s sectional championship at Kenston where they will take on the Bombers (14-10) at 5 pm. The loss ends the Irish postseason run and they will wrap up their regular season Tuesday evening with a trip to CVCA (14-9).
