Does The Cavs Rebuild Come To Life This Season?

For three years, the Cleveland Cavaliers have been in rebuild mode. Things haven’t gone fully to plan, but there has been a little promise from the team. Is this the season where the rebuild finally comes to life?

Fans will be hoping so, while the years of LeBron were exciting, since his move to sign with the Lakers there has not been too much to smile about for the team.

Rewind back to when the NBA was suspended last season and there is nothing else to say about the Cavs other than they were performing poorly and were in desperate need of a spark.

The 2020 draft gave the Cavs a high pick to try and found that spark, and they may just have done that, signing Isaac Okoro to the team with the fifth overall pick.

The Arrival of Isaac Okoro

With the fifth pick of the 2020 draft, the Cleveland Cavaliers selected Isaac Okoro who is expected to come in and be the new driving force behind this rebuild.

Unlike other talent that has been brought in to try and lift the Cavs, Okoro looks as though he may actually be able to do it.

The Cavs have ranked last in defensive ratings for the past three years, an area where Okoro shines. This will help him to have an immediate impact on his new team, even if he doesn’t quite transition as well as he could to the style of play in the NBA.

Darius Garland and Collin Sexton are both quality players, but have a glaring hole in their defensive play. So much so, the question has been asked as to whether these two can play together.

If anyone can keep these two on the court together by being good enough defensively to cover up their issues, it is a player like Okoro.

Foundations in Place to Build On

Assuming this works with Okoro, the Cavs have the foundations in place to be a strong challenger in the NBA, perhaps not immediately, but certainly over the next few years.

There was a time when the Cavs attracted the attention of many NBA gamblers, because they were always strong favorites to win. This is what they need to get back to, so that new gamblers using free bet offers can get involved and back the team.

When you take a welcome offer, the bet is refunded as a free bet if it loses so the player doesn’t have any losses from their first wager.

Building has been slow, but the first signs are there that the Cavs can put together the right foundations which they can then add to over the coming years to make them competitive again.

The Future of the Cavs

There are still many questions ahead for the Cavs and the fans cannot really have them answered right now.

In terms of a fit for the team, Isaac Okoro is exactly what they need, and his quality means they can pin most of their hopes on him. But he can’t do it all alone, alongside Darius Garland and Collin Sexton, Okoro needs to create the foundations for this team in the future.

Add some others to the mix and this team has a chance of competing next year, let alone in the future. That would raise the possibility of Kevin Love staying, depending on where the team is, though he may go out of the door for trade pieces to help the rebuild further.

Hope may just be around the corner, there are no guarantees, but things do appear to be getting better.
