Cleveland Browns Testing Rookie Emmanuel Ogbah at 3-4 Defensive End

The Cleveland Browns lost defensive end Desmond Bryant for an entire season, so the team is trying just about everything to fill his void. Bryant, 30, suffered a torn pectoral and will miss his entire 2016 campaign.

After leading the team in sacks in 2015, the Browns hope that second-round draft pick Emmanuel Ogbah can help fill the void. Ogbah is an outside linebacker who hopes to make the transition to defensive end this training camp.

Head coach Hue Jackson talked about this test and how he hopes Ogbah can become a dominant force on the defense.

We’re going to try a little bit of everything, coach Hue Jackson told reporters on Friday. We’re going to put our best players out there on defense. Obviously, we are going to try him there. We’re going to put him back at outside linebacker. We’re just trying to find a lot of different combinations now that Des [Bryant] is going to be down to see if we can put our best guys out there. If he gives us something there, then it’s going to help our football team. We’re going to try anything and everything that we can to give guys opportunities that showcase their abilities and talents.

He continued and talked about Ogbah and his potential switch to defensive end.

We’re going to play him at defensive end some and take a good look at him, Jackson said of Ogbah. As you guys know, this time of the year is evaluation time for all of our football team. Now, you can do some of that. Move guys around and see what’s the best fit for our football team to help us win.

It seems like Ogbah has the necessary flexibility to play multiple positions. Let’s just hope that he has what it takes to fill some of the void that has been created after the loss of Desmond Bryant.
