Brahmbhatt, Bucher, Smitek, Mu,and Mills Advance to Semifinals at OHSAA Girls Tennis State Championships

Three individuals and a doubles team from Northeast Ohio advanced on Thursday to the semifinals of the OHSAA Girls Tennis State Championships at Wooster College.

Amara Brahmbhatt (Westlake), Tess Bucher (North Canton Hoover) and Natalie Smitek (Avon) all advanced to the semifinals of the Division I State Championships.

In Brahmbhatt’s first match she won 6-2, 6-2. Then in the quarterfinal match against her opponent from Sylvania, Brahmbhatt won 6-1, 6-2.  

Brahmbhatt, a Michigan State University commit, will face Sarah Clark from Cincinnati Turpin in the semifinal match.

Tess Bucher, a University of Kentucky commit from North Canton Hoover, won her first round match, 6-0, 6-4.

In the quarterfinals, Bucher defeated her opponent from Olentangy Orange, 6-0, 6-1.

Bucher will face Avon’s Natalie Smitek in the semifinals.

Smitek, a Western Michigan University commit, won her first round match 6-3, 6-0. She then defeated her opponent from Dublin Coffman in three sets, 7-5, 2-6, and 6-0 to reach the semifinals.

In the OHSAA Girls Tennis Division II Doubles State Championships the doubles team of Summer Mu and Kate Mills won their first round match, 6-0, 6-0. Then they defeated their opponents from Lima Central Catholic 6-1, 6-1 to reach the semifinals.

Mu and Mills will face the doubles team from Indian Hill in the semifinals.

Due to inclement weather expected on Friday, the semifinals and finals of the state championships will be held indoors at the Aspen Racquet Club starting at 9am.
