Browns VP Sashi Brown Says Team Won’t Be Trading OT Joe Thomas

With the Browns already having lost center Alex Mack this offseason in free agency, there’s been a growing thought among fans that the team should start totally from scratch and trade two of their superstars, that being OT Joe Thomas and CB Joe Haden.

Haden just had ankle surgery, and while he really did little in 2015 due to injury, he’s still one of the few players on the team that is considered one of the best at his position.

Trading Haden would setback the teams’ secondary, but at the same time the club would be able to gain more draft picks for him.

As for Thomas, he was already on the trading block last season, as the team was in heavy talks with the Denver Broncos for him around the trade deadline, but they couldn’t come to an agreement on a trade.

Browns new vice president of football operations Sashi Brown said to the media down at the NFL’s Meetings that Thomas isn’t going anywhere, and he will stay the anchor the teams’ offensive line for the foreseeable future.

ESPN’s Pat McManamon reported on the story:

The Cleveland Browns do not plan to trade Joe Thomas.

That’s the word from new vice president of football operations Sashi Brown, who said twice at the NFL’s annual meetings that there is no desire to trade the Pro Bowl left tackle.

“That’s not our plan at all,” Brown told the Cleveland media. “I know it’s been written about a lot. But that’s as simple as I can say it.”

And if somebody offers a first-round draft pick?

“Again, our plan is not to trade Joe Thomas,” Brown said. “He’ll be our left tackle.”

So it sounds like Thomas is sticking around, as for Haden, until he can prove he’s 100 percent he’s basically damaged goods. So the team wouldn’t probably get much of anything for him until he takes the field and can prove he’s healthy.

As far as Thomas goes, Browns fans can expect to see him in brown and orange moving forward.
