5) Rookie on the bubble
Generally, rookies get the benefit of the doubt when it comes to making the 53-man roster because, well, the team just used a draft pick on them. That said, Browns rookie CB Simeon Thomas may be in trouble. Throughout the preseason, Thomas hasn’t exactly stood out above his fellow cornerbacks. He also didn’t do much to help his cause on Thursday night, picking up two costly pass interference penalties during the game.
Those are costly mistakes when you’re fighting for a roster spot, especially in a crowded CB room. A guy like Jeremiah McKinnon may have earned himself a spot on the 53-man roster for example. E.J. Gaines is also in the mix despite starting the season injured. Ultimately, if the sixth-round pick is cut, he could easily end up on the Browns practice squad.
