BRUNSWICK, OHIO- Due to a few changes on Brunswick’s home schedule, Brunswick needed an opponent for their homecoming game, and the visiting Canada Prep Academy Raiders stepped up to take the spot.

Canada Prep comes all the way from Welland, Ontario, and is the only school in Canada that plays a full season of American football exclusively against schools within the United States.

Canada Prep is coming off a 23-8 loss at Toledo Central Catholic last week, and were 0-2 on the season. Brunswick’s Blue Devils came into tonight’s international affair with a 2-1 record after a thrilling 28-26 win over visiting Shaker Heights in week 3.

Before the game started, a great show of sportsmanship occurred when Brunswick loaned Canada Prep old jerseys of theirs after Canada Prep accidentally left theirs north of the border.

Canada Prep had a lengthy opening drive only to turn the ball over on downs at the Brunswick 20 on a great stop by Kaden Harter.

Brunswick’s first drive ended on a Cole Zamiska interception just as it seemed like the offense was starting to click. Zamiska’s pass sailed over his intended receiver, Flanigan.

Brunswick’s Kaden Harter recovered a fumble to end Canada Prep’s next drive after the ball was snapped well past their quarterback.

On the very next play, Brunswick’s Zamiska threw his second interception of the game on a deep pass in the end zone, giving the visitors the ball at their own 20-yard line.

Brunswick’s Dakota Lavinder intercepted a long pass giving the ball back to the home team. Lavinder made a great play, holding on to the ball.

On Brunswick’s next drive, the NEOSI player of the week for Week 3 ran for 40 yards, including a one-yard TD plunge, giving the Blue Devils a 7-0 lead with 4:20 left in the first half!

After a quick three-down drive for Canada Prep, Brunswick took over at their own 20 with just over 2 minutes left in the half. But Brunswick ended up running the time off the clock after two first downs, leaving the score 7-0 at the half.

The first two drives of the second half saw each team trading punts, Brunswick took over at the 50-yard line and after a long drive, a missed 31-yard field goal by Nick Demonte that left the Blue Devils with no points on the drive.

After another Zamiska interception, Canada Prep took over at the Brunswick 35 yard line with just under two minutes left in the third quarter.

A Kaden Harter sack backed Canada Prep back to the Brunswick 47 leaving them with a 3rd and 22. An incomplete pass on third down left Canada Prep no choice but to punt the ball back to Brunswick to start the fourth quarter with the Blue Devils leading 7-0.

After a long drive, Canada Prep scored on a two-yard run with 5:33 left in the game to make it 7-6 Brunswick after a two-point conversion was intercepted by Seth Clark.

After a great defensive stop by Canada Prep, they took over at their own 40 with 3:18 left in the game, driving for a hopeful game winning score but were denied by stingy Brunswick defense with 1:13 left in the game.

Brunswick ran the ball on the first three downs down to bring the clock down to 15 seconds left before taking a timeout to try to punt the ball back to Canada Prep. The Raiders brought in a heavy rush in hopes to block the punt but to no avail.

With four seconds left, the Raiders tried a Hail Mary that was incomplete, and the Blue Devils squeak out a 7-6 win, bringing their record to 3-1 on the season. Brunswick will play at Mentor in a huge GCC clash next Friday.
