St. Edward won a Division 1 sectional championship on Saturday night with an 80-51 home victory over Berea-Midpark. The Eagles advance to next week’s district tournament and will face Grafton Midview on Wednesday.

Trailing by nine points after one quarter, Berea-Midpark started the second on an 8-2 run to pull within three points at 24-21. But that was as close as the Titans would get. St. Ed’s finished the half with a 16-5 run of their own, built up a 15-point lead at the intermission, and maintained a double-digit lead for the rest of the game.

The Eagles’ balanced scoring attack was complemented by a relentless defense that forced 18 Berea-Midpark turnovers. Senior guard Michael Bova tossed in 21 points to lead the way for St. Edward. Sophomore guard Jayson Levis was the Titans’ top scorer with 16.
