Down 5-3 in the bottom of the ninth to the Arizona Diamondbacks, the Texas Rangers rallied for two runs to send the first game of the World Series into extra innings.

The Rangers tied the game when Leody Taveras walked to leadoff the bottom of the ninth inning. After the next batter struck out, Corey Seager hit the first pitch he saw 418 feet over the right field fence for a two-run home run to tie the game.

In the post-game interview, Seager talked about his thoughts as he came to the plate in the bottom of the ninth inning.

“This is a resilient group. We’ve preached it all year — pass the baton; the game is not over until all the outs are made,” said Seager. “We went in there, just tried to have some good at-bats in the ninth and continued to have them in the extra innings.”

Seager then talked about the moment after he hit the ball for the home run and what he was thinking about.

“Just excitement, obviously. It’s fun. This is the playoffs. This is kind of what it’s all about. So it was a cool moment, for sure.”

After both teams were held scoreless in the tenth inning, Adolis Garcia came to the plate with one out in the bottom of the 11th. On a 3-1 count, Garcia hit a 96 mph sinker, which was low in the zone and out over the middle of the plate, 373 feet into the right field stands for the walk off 6-5 game one victory.

In the post-game interview, Garcia was asked if knew the ball was gone once he made contact.

“I felt that I hit it well but it was a ball that went the opposite direction,” said Garcia. “So when that happens I’ve just got to make sure that I run out of home plate and run the bases,”

The World Series continues with Game Two on Saturday night.
