Opinion: Grading Every Browns Move Thus Far

3.) Browns gets FS Damarious Randall for QB DeShone Kizer and swap of 2018 4th and 5th round picks

Grade: B-

Another interesting trade to grade. Randall was a CB for Green Bay who played FS in college and will revert back to that for the Browns. That helps as it moves Peppers to where he belongs in the box but from what we saw with the defense last year that guy who plays in the middle of nowhere didn’t make much of an impact so the position gets a little undervalued. As far as Kizer his trade value wasn’t going to go up sitting third on the depth chart developing behind a rookie and Tyrod Taylor so moving him now for whatever you can get was probably the right move if you were not sold on his future. I wish it could have been a one for one instead of swapping picks but it was a trade that made sense for both teams but nothing groundbreaking.

4.) Browns get a 2019 3rd round pick for DT Danny Shelton and a 2018 5th round pick

Grade: B-

I liked Danny Shelton. He was brought in to be a run stuffing NT in a 3-4 and ended up not being a fit in Gregg Williams attacking 4-3 scheme that he likes. With only seeing the field on 44% of snaps last season it is clear his role was not cut out for the team and it was time to find him a new home where someone like him is needed. I wish they could have gotten more for a young talent that has not totally busted than moving up two rounds in the middle of the draft.

You were doing good until the Joe Thomas assessment. “I’m glad he took his time and came up with a decision that was best for him”. Wow, sounds really selfish. Joe took his ball and went home. Let’s celebrate.
