It’s that time again. The start to another exciting week of NBA action. The Warriors keep rolling, but a Christmas Day showdown could offer a chance to give the Dubs their second loss of the season. The Cavs got one of the best point guards in the game back from injury. Maybe that will help them climb in our rankings? Let’s get it started, with this week’s edition of the NEOSI Top 10 NBA Power Rankings.
1. Golden State Warriors (26-1)
Last Week: 1
What we learned from the Warriors finally losing to Milwaukee just over a week ago is that all it takes to beat them is playing on the second night of a back-to-back, after a double-overtime game, after flying from Boston to Milwaukee in the wee hours of the morning, and oh yeah, two starting players have to be missing for Golden State.
So, as long as those circumstances play out, you got a shot to beat them. However, the Christmas Day matchup between the Cavs and Warriors will be the first true test for Golden State, as they have not played Oklahoma City, San Antonio, or Cleveland up to this point in the season, and those are far and away, the next three best teams in the league behind Golden State.
2. San Antonio Spurs (23-5)
Last Week: 2
Kawhi Leonard is on fire to start the season. The small forward is averaging 21 points per game and shooting 49 percent from three-point range.
The Spurs have the best record at home (15-0) and have won nine of their last ten games. Their 8-5 record on the road does show, however, that they are certainly beatable away from the Alamo, especially on nights when they rest Tim Duncan, Manu Ginobli, or Tony Parker.
