Lake County Bats Quiet Again As they fall 3-1

The Captains opened a 6-game series with the West Michigan Whitecaps tonight. Things did not go as planned for the Captains as they fell 3-1. The bats were quiet much of the night for both teams especially after the fourth inning. The Whitecaps got solo home runs in the third and fourth innings from Brady Allen and Dillon Paulson. Isaiah Green hit his third homer of the season in the third inning for the Captains as the lone score.

Starting pitcher Reid Johnston was only able to pitch 3.2 innings as he allowed 4 hits for the fifth time this season. he allowed three earned runs, three walks, while only throwing three strikeouts. This was the second time this season Johnston gave up multiple homeruns. In relief, Lenny Torres Jr., and Trenton Denholm pitched 5 innings. Torres pitched an inning and walked one, while striking out three batters. Denholm finished the night pitching four innings and allowing two hits, striking out two and giving up no runs.

The Captains got two hits, and a walk after Greene’s homer. Jake Fox recorded the walk, while Will Bartlett hit a double and Milan Toletino singled. The last 11 Captains hitters were retired in order.

The Captains look to bounce back on Wednesday as game 2 of the six-game series starts at 11 am.
