Joe Lampe Goes Yard – Captains Win Last Game of Season to Finish 65-64

Eastlake – The Lake County Captains completed their 2023 season on Sunday afternoon with a 3-2 victory over the Lansing Lugnuts on fan appreciation day at Classic Park.

After Lansing took a 1-0 lead in the first inning, the Captains took the lead in the bottom of the fifth inning.

With a runner on first and no outs in the fifth, Joe Lampe hit a 2-run home run to give the Captains a 2-1 lead.  

 

The Captains added a key insurance run in the eighth inning.  

Junior Sanquintin doubled to drive in a run in the eighth inning to give the Captains a 3-1 lead heading to the ninth.

The insurance run would prove to be important in the top of the ninth. 

The Lugnuts scored a run in the top of the ninth to make the final score 3-2.

For the game, the Captains were led offensively by Jorge Burgos who was 3-4 and Junior Sanquintin who was 2-4 with a double.

Earning the victory on the mound for the Captains was former University of Georgia baseball player, Ryan Webb.

Webb pitched six innings, only giving up one run on four hits and striking out 4.

Three Captains pitchers pitched in relief.

Reid Johnston pitched a scoreless seventh inning, while Sergio Morillo pitched a scoreless eighth inning.

Picking up the save for the Captains was Matt Turner who gave up one run in the ninth.

With the victory, the Captains finish the season one game above .500 at 65-64.
