Guardians showing Comeback Spirit as they top Oakland in Extra Innings

Comeback

Last night the Guardians had a huge comeback against the Oakland A’s in a lengthy 10 inning game. Cleveland won by a score of 12-11.

During the bottom of the first inning, Zach Plesac gave up 5 runs in his less-than-stellar performance and was pulled from the game. Xzavion Curry entered the game in the second and pitched 5 innings, He had outstanding run support with every player in the lineup, excluding new guy Josh Bell, recording a hit.

The A’s didn’t go easy on the pitching staff however with both sides slugging it out. Amed Rosario, Jose Ramirez, Josh Naylor, and Myles Straw were responsible for 8 of the 12 runs scored.

Going into the bottom of the 9th the Guardians had a lead of 10-8 and they brought in Emmanuel Clase to close out the game. However, in a very uncharacteristic performance Clase let 2 runs score and we were brought into the top of the 10th.  Rosario hit an infield single to push a runner to third. Ramirez then singled on a liner to right and drove in a run. Following that Josh Naylor was intentionally walked and the bases were loaded. The Guardians were only able to push in 1 run and the sides then flipped.

Eli Morgan took the rubber and gave up a big hit to make the game 12-11. Morgan did get one strikeout paired with a couple of in play outs. Morgan recorded his first ever save in a great offensive game.

The Guards are going to be taking on the A’s again tonight in Oakland. First pitch is at 9:40 pm Eastern Time.
