CSU Vikings Mens Team Tips Off Preseason Tomorrow Night!

The excitement is high this season for the CSU Men’s Basketball team as they play their first season under new coach Dennis Felton.  This game preview of tomorrow nights Exhibition Game at home against Cedarville is courtesy of Greg Murphy of the CSU media communications team.

vs. Cedarville | Thursday, Nov. 2 | 7:00 p.m.

GAME PREVIEW:
•    The Vikings open the 2017-18 season by hosting Cedarville for an exhibition game on Thursday (Nov. 2) at 7:00 pm in the Wolstein Center. It will be CSU’s lone exhibition game of the preseason.
•    First-year head coach Dennis Felton will make his CSU debut. He was named the 15th head coach in CSU history on March 24.
•    Felton is a 30-year coaching veteran and has won 184 games as a head coach. He spent five seasons at Western Kentucky (1998-03) and six seasons at Georgia (2003-09).
•    The Vikings went 9-22 overall and 5-13 in the Horizon League last year.
•    CSU returns three starters and eight letterwinners from last year’s squad.
•    Bobby Word is the top returning scorer after averaging 11.1 points last year. He also made 66 three-pointers, 10th most in a single season in school history.
•    Kasheem Thomas started all 31 games last year, the most for a freshman in program history.
•    The Vikings have six seniors on the roster this year in Derek Sloan, Anthony Wright, Jamarcus Hairston, Kenny Carpenter, Terrell Hales and Bobby Word.
•    Despite having six seniors, CSU’s 15 player roster boasts just 19 seasons of NCAA Division I basketball experience.
•    CSU has hit a three-pointer in a school-record 597 straight games.
•    CSU opens the regular season on Nov. 11 when the Vikings play at Akron at 7:00 pm in the NE Ohio Coaches vs. Cancer Classic.
•    Youngstown State and Kent State will play in the second game of the doubleheader at 9:00 pm.
•    After a game at Rutgers on Nov. 14 at 7:00 pm, the Vikings will open the home slate on Nov. 17 by hosting Coppin State at 7:00 pm in the Wolstein Center.
