Cleveland SC Playoffs

Cleveland SC (CSC) completed their 2022 campaign as the leaders of the Rust Belt Conference. They take on rival Pittsburgh Hotspurs (PH) today at Cleveland State’s Krenzler Field in the first round of the NPSL playoffs. The game kicks off at 7:00 PM EST.

Pittsburgh won the season series, 2-1, over first-place CSC.

Tonight’s match is again a rematch of last year’s first round battle, when Cleveland defeated their opponents from Pennsylvania, 4-0. Cleveland used that win to springboard to the semifinals ultimately losing to the eventual NPSL champions, Denton Diablos FC.

This season has been one of unexpected problems/issues for Cleveland. Vlad Muresan took over the coaching duties a few weeks before the opening match of the season. He did NOT work with the club during their US Open Cup run of games.

The team has had numerous injuries that has made fielding eleven starters somewhat challenging at times.

Their string of 19 unbeaten matches was stopped by this PH club back in June.

But through it all, Cleveland has found their scoring touch and defensive strength and look forward to tonight’s titanic struggle.

The winner of the match will face either the Muskegon Risers or Med City FC on July 22nd. Hope to see you Cleveland SC fans on campus tonight!

Don’t forget to vote for the Cleveland SC players for the NPSL awards!
