UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, OHIO– It was a rough day on the pitch for the Cleveland SC as they dropped their first match of the season.  The visiting Fort Pittsb Regiment came into town and looked to be in the right place at the right time several times throughout the match.  The Regiment cashed in on some bad no-calls along with perfect ball placement on their way to a 3-1 victory.

Cleveland SC had chance after chance early and often, but simply couldn’t cash in.  They got off to a slow start and couldn’t recover despite having twice as many corner kicks and attack zone time.  Fort Pitt benefited greatly from outstanding play out of their goalie Scott Risler, who had over a dozen saves.

Risler was everywhere in the box, and prevented the Cleveland SC from breaking through until the game was in stoppage time late. It was a rough loss for Cleveland SC as they appeared to be a bit sluggish following their long road trip on Friday night against Binghamton.

Fort Pitt scored first in the third minute of the match when Joaquin Franch connected off of a perfectly placed corner kick.  Cleveland SC had a great chance to tie it in the seventh minute but couldn’t convert an Antonio Manfut penalty kick miss.

The Regiment would make Cleveland pay for the miss as in the 24th minute, as they extended the lead to 2-0 on a header from Anthony Vigara.  Vigara would score again early into the second half, putting the game out of reach at 3-0. That goal also came on a corner kick.

Cleveland SC avoided the shut out late in stoppage time as Daniel Ruple took advantage of sloppy defense to strike.  It was too little too late for the boys in Orange and Black.

They play next at Rochester on Friday night before returning home next Sunday to host FC Buffalo on Father’s Day.
