Who Is Pete Nance?

Pete Nance

Cleveland Oh. – The Cavs have made a roster move signing Pete Nance to a 10-day contract. Nance, a 6’10” F/C who is the son of Cavs legend Larry Nance, is averaging 13.5 points and 8 rebounds for the Charge the Cavs G League affiliate. Nance has gotten better as the season has progressed as the. Starting center for the Charge. His best game came January 10th as he led the Charge to a win over the Indiana Mad Ants recording a triple double with 27 points, 12 assist, and 10 boards. Nance is versatile, big as he can shoot the ball and has a nice touch inside as well.

The Cavs were down to 13 players when Ricky Rubio announced his retirement. They had 14 days to fill that roster spot. While this may not be the long-term solution to that spot, the Cavs have rewarded a player already in their system. The one thing about the Cavs (as with most G League affiliates) the Charge run the same plays and use the same terminology so there isn’t a huge learning curve when they call players up.

As for Nance, we will see what kind of run he gets with the Cavs. A big man who can shoot is a player that NBA teams can always use. Nance has upped his usage with the Charge over the last 6 games. With Isaiah Mobley and Emoni Bates in and out of the lineup as the Cavs two-way guys, Nance has been the stabilizer in the middle for the Charge. Over the last 6 games Nance has averaged 15.5 points, 7.8 boards, and 5 assist. He is also swatting 1.5 shots per game, while shooting 38% from three. Nance calling card for an NBA career will be the fact that he is a big who can stretch the floor. While this is only a 10-day, this is yet another win for the Cavs scouting and G League team. Charge GM, Liron Fanan and coach Mike Gerrity pride themselves on getting their players ready to make the jump to the next level. Last year, Sam Merrill was a guy that was signed to the Cavs from the Charge, and he is producing at a high level this season. Nance could be next on the list.
