Week 1 of high school football is in the books and it’s time to take a look at some of the top performers from the opening weekend. There were countless impressive performances from across Northeast Ohio and here is your opportunity to have your voice heard. We’ve highlighted four of the top performances and now, it’s up to you. Lamar Sperling, Archbishop Hoban
Much of the attention heading into the season was focused on the QB position for Hoban. It didn’t take Sperling long to remind everybody he’s one of the top backs in the State. The Buffalo commit exploded for 393 yards and four touchdowns in the Knights’ 44-20 victory over Football North (CN).
Cody Coontz, Rootstown
The Rovers star running back started off the 2022 campaign with a bang. The senior ran for four first half touchdowns and finished the game with 318 yards in Rootstown’s 33-0 victory over Crestwood.
D’Shawntae Jones, Glenville
The Tarblooders are one of the favorites to win the Division IV championship and Jones is a big reason why. The junior turned in a dominant performance against St. V with 140 yards and three touchdowns on 15 carries in Glenville’s 25-0 victory.
Andrew Bruce, Chardon
With a 28-game win streak on the line, Bruce turned in one of the most efficient games possible. The junior running back had a whopping 158 yards and two touchdowns on only six carries in the Hilltoppers 14-7 win over North Olmsted.
