Tristan Thompson, Team Canada Edge Out 58-55 Win Over Senegal to Advance to Olympic Qualifying Semi-Finals

Canada’s Men’s Basketball Team won its second-straight game of the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament in the Philippines on Wednesday morning, edging out a 58-55 win over Senegal to clinch first place in Group A of the tournament and advance to the semi-finals.

It was another good performance for Cavalier Tristan Thompson, who put up seven points and ten rebounds, giving him 17 points and 15 rebounds in the first two games of the tournament.

Here’s Tristan throwing down a dunk in the second quarter:

Raptors guard Cory Joseph once again led Team Canada in scoring with 13 points, hitting two clutch free throws with 11 seconds left in the game to seal the victory.

Former Cavalier and #1 overall pick Anthony Bennett put in a solid performance with seven points and seven rebounds in the contest.

Canada’s semi-final game will take place on Saturday. The opponent is yet to be determined depending on how the bracket goes, but it will be against either the Philippines, New Zealand, or France. The start time is to be announced depending on the outcome of the bracket.

If Canada wins the tournament, they earn a berth in the Rio Olympics.
