The View from the Sharp Tank: A look at the current Cleveland sports landscape

Hi Cleveland and all of Northeast Ohio! It’s been a while since we’ve talked, but I am back, so let’s pull up a chair and chat, shall we?

Browns:

Who is better at lying and covering things up? The US Government or the Browns? Honestly, that’s a tossup, but I am not here to (thankfully) talk about our government. I am here however to ask what the heck is going on with our starting quarterback? How can anyone be “day to day” as far as their playing status against the best team in the NFL in the 49ers, when said player isn’t practicing again and hasn’t practiced in almost 3 weeks? Plus, can he really not practice, or is this just part of the coverup? Either way I am starting to not trust our coach and the entire Browns front office because of this. All I know is that Watson already has his fair share of haters, but this makes him look even worse to a lot of fans. The guy is getting paid $270 million and can’t (won’t?) play but a player like David Njoku got skin literally burned off his face and he was playing a couple days later.

Guardians:

Rumors are that our favorite ball club is already knee deep in the search for a manager to replace (Can you ever really replace him?) Terry Francona. The only thing that is certain about this process is that Sandy Alomar will not be interviewed, and that is because Alomar advised the Guards that he wishes to not be included in the managerial search, even though I think he would make a good one. The search will slow down a bit until after the MLB playoffs are over so they can interview coaches that are still coaching, but I believe that Tampa Bay Rays manager Kevin Cash will be highly sought after and I am sure that Terry Francona has been talking to Cash to get him to possibly come to Cleveland and be his replacement. If it’s not Cash, my guess is that our new manager will be a young up and coming coach that gets the job. No matter who their pick is, he has some BIG shoes to fill in replacing a legend like Tito. Oh, and only four months till spring training, it will go fast! Right? Right??

Cavaliers:

One of the big questions for this Cavs team so far is will Donovan Mitchell re-sign with the Wine and Gold? He let everyone know that he wasn’t signing an extension this past off-season although he also said that he may still sign an extension in the future. To me, nothing Mitchell has done or said points to anything saying he is unhappy here. We fans just need to be patient and I believe depending on how this upcoming season goes, that he will sign on for an additional couple of years. This team will be fun again this season, and their goal is to win at least one playoff series, however the East is again stacked, so our Cavs have a tough test ahead of them.

Being a fan of one or all of the Cleveland sports teams should come with a warning label as rooting for them hardly ever ends well and is at times very stressful, but we Clevelanders are tough. All the stress and ridicule of being a Cleveland fan will be worth it one day, hopefully soon when one of our teams breaks through and wins a title. If that doesn’t happen, we will still root for them like we have most of our lives in hopes that our sports dreams will come true. We can dream, right?

Until next time, Go Browns, Go Cavs, Go Guards, and stay sharp Northeast Ohio!
