Rychel and Forsberg Take Home the ‘Golden Skate Awards’ in Monsters Win Over Checkers

CLEVELAND – It’s time for the NEO Sports Insiders ‘Golden Skate Awards’ of the game handed out to the most valuable contributors of the night for the Lake Erie Monsters after their 3-2 victory over the Charlotte Checkers at the Q.

Our first Golden Skates go to left wing Kerby Rychel.

Rychel scored his third goal of the season in the second period to make it a 3-1 game and ultimately that goal proved to be the difference in the margin of victory.

Rychel has been up and down between Lake Erie and their NHL affiliate the Columbus Blue Jackets multiple times already in this young season, and continues to be a leader for the Monsters.

Our other Golden Skates winner is Goaltender Anton Forsberg.

Forsberg allowed two goals, but even Head Coach Jared Bednar told reporters after the game, “We may have gotten bailed out by our goaltender tonight.”

Forsberg made 31 saves on 33 shots. The Monsters are 3-1 in games when Forsberg starts this season.

The Monsters host a rematch with the Checkers on Halloween night at 7 PM.
