Robert Griffin III Gives His Insight On Being Named the Starting Quarterback

Cleveland Browns quarterback Robert Griffin III received the green light yesterday and was named the starting quarterback for the 2016/2017 NFL season. The former Heisman winning quarterback has been impressing Browns coaches and the entire staff with his training camp performances.

After he was named the starter yesterday morning, Griffin III gave his insight about taking on a major role and hopefully succeeding in Cleveland.

On his reaction to being named Browns’ starting QB and if it is a sense of relief:

No, there’s no sense of relief. You come out every day for an opportunity. I’m thankful that to (Head) Coach (Hue Jackson) that he believes in me. I’m thankful my teammates believe in me. I’m just going to get ready for today’s practice, go out and get ready for Green Bay.

On the emotion taking on the role as the Browns’ starting QB:

It’s an honor. It’s an honor to be one of the 32 in this league. You take that, you respect that and you continue to go out and work and try to get better.

On if he ever doubted that he would be a starting QB again after his last three seasons at Washington:

You should never doubt. There is a quote out there and it says, ‘If you don’t believe, who will.’ I’m thankful for my teammates and Coach Jackson, (Executive Vice President of Football Operations) Sashi (Brown) and all those guys for believing in me as a player and giving me an opportunity.

On if he better appreciates and understands this opportunity, given the past three years of his NFL career:

Everything that you go through in life is a lesson. It’s up to you to decide to use lesson that in a positive or negative way. Since I got here, I’ve been really thankful for the opportunity because they don’t come around that often. When you get one, you have to seize it.

Head coach Hue Jackson gave his insight on his quarterback and how excited he is to start the season.

On how he feels about his decision to name QB Robert Griffin III the Browns starting QB:

I feel good or else I wouldn’t have made it (laughter). No, I feel really good about that. Obviously, at some point in time like I told you, we’ll make a decision and move on. I think it’s important for our team, for the organization, our fans, everybody. I think you make a decision, you stick by it. It’s what I believe needed to happen. It’s what our staff believed needed to happen. We’re looking forward to him doing a great job here this year.

On the high expectations he has for the QB position and what Griffin did to earn his trust and worthiness of being the starting QB:

He played the way I think a quarterback has to play. I think he did it, flawlessly. I think he did everything I asked him to do. I know sometimes you guys judge it maybe a little differently than I do. I get that, but I think he did a great job. He has continued to do a great job, but again, he has got to continue to get better, too. By no stretch is this an excel moment. He has got to buckle down and still keep improving each and every day. That’s what the expectation is for that position.

Browns fans may see Griffin III Friday night against the Green Bay Packers. Jackson is still not sure about the move, but did talk about it.

On how much Griffin will play on Friday at Green Bay:

I haven’t really thought about it yet. I think I’m going to wait until we get closer to the end of the week and then we’ll make a decision again with the rest of the staff and the rest of the group. We stick them all out there at some point because I think they all need to play. We need to get ready for a game and know what it’s like to go play in a game against another opponent and understand that they’re not going to be nice to us, that’s for sure. We’re looking forward to it.

Now that the Browns have a starting quarterback and just got their all-pro cornerback (Joe Haden) healthy, this team is looking prime to upset some teams in 2016. Football is BACK!
