Report: Browns Still the Frontrunner in Race to Land QB Garoppolo

It’s been mostly quiet over the last few days in the Browns pursuit of Patriots backup quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo, a player that most had felt would come to Cleveland the moment the team made a wild deal on Thursday with the Texans for fellow backup QB Brock Osweiler.

One NFL voice seems to still feel that Garoppolo will come aboard, that being Mike Freeman of Bleacher Report, who hit on the topic Wednesday.

Freeman says in conversation with those in the know, they seem to think a trade with Tom Brady’s backup will happen, and the Browns are still the front runner, and that the asking price is still a pair of first-round picks.

Most around the league, however, think New England’s asking price will come down and there remains a solid chance of a trade happening. We’ll see.

The Patriots are standing strong right now in keeping the young backup, and it seems like for now, they are willing to wait on a team to make an offer they can’t refuse.

The question will be will the Browns be that team?
