PREVIEW: Cavaliers look to right the ship against the Washington Wizards

1. Defending beyond the arc

After the Cavs’ most recent loss on Wednesday, everyone from head coach Tyronn Lue to the players said that they did some good things on defense. However, there were still plenty of missed closeouts against the Indiana Pacers, who hit 16 three-pointers. Since the second game this season, the Cavs have given up 11 or more threes. They’ve given up 17 in three of those games.

The Wizards are currently ranked 20th in the league in making threes, however, averaging just 9.9 a game. The Cavs are currently the worst in the league at defending beyond the arc, as their opponents are averaging 14.0 threes a game. Something’s gotta give. Maybe on Friday, the Cavs can get back to some basic fundamentals.
