Planchart, Valdes and Tolentino lead Lake County Captains to 5-2 Victory over Beloit Sky Carps

Eastlake – The Lake County Captains defeated the Beloit Sky Carps 5-2 on Thursday night at Classic Park.

Leading the way for the Captains were Victor Planchart (3-4), Yordys Valdes (2-2), and Milan Tolentino (2-5).

The Sky Carps took a 1-0 lead in the first inning on Zach Zubia’s sixth home run of the year.

The Captains tied the game in the bottom of the 4th when Guardians seventh ranked prospect Jake Fox singled and then stole second base. 

Guardians 18th ranked prospect, shortstop Milan Tolentino, then singled to drive in Fox from second base.

The Captains added a run in the fourth and two in the fifth to take a 4-1 lead.

In the fourth, the Captains scored after Valdes tripled and then Planchart singled to drive in Valdes from third.

In the fifth, Captains catcher Joe Donovan homered to right center field and Tolentino scored on a throwing error.

The Captains scored their final run of the night in the 6th when Nate Furman reached base after being hit by the pitch. Furman then stole second and moved to third on Planchart’s single.

Furman scored on Junior Sanquintin’s double to right field to make the final score 5-2.

Getting the victory on the mound for the Captains was Rodney Boone who threw six innings.  

Boone gave up 2 runs on five hits while striking out five.

Alaska Abney pitched the seventh and eighth innings giving up no runs on three hits while striking out one.  

Will Thornton got the save for the Captains as he pitched a scoreless ninth.
