NEOBCA All-Star game ends in 7-7 tie; MVP’s announced

Akron – On June 28 the Geauga/Medina County All-Stars took on the Mahoning/Stark County All-Stars in the Northeast Ohio Baseball Coaches Association (NEOBCA) All-Star Game at Canal Park.

The Mahoning/Stark County All-Star team got off to a quick start as they scored three runs in the bottom of the first.

 

The NEOBCA Division II Co-Player of the Year from Canfield, AJ Havrilla, got the Mahoning/Stark All-Stars on the scoreboard in the bottom of the first with a two-run RBI double. 

 

Brayden Fellouzis from Perry drove in the third run of the inning for the Mahoning/Stark All-Stars on a fielder’s choice.

 

Kenston’s Drew McKenna led off the top of the second for the Geauga/Medina All-Stars with a line drive single to center.  

 

Nate Hill, the NEOBCA Division I Co-Player of the Year from Medina, then tripled to the left field corner, scoring McKenna to make the score 3-1. 

 

In the bottom of the second,  Mahoning/Stark scored when Fellouzis drove in a run with a fielder’s choice to make the score 4-1 after two innings.

 

In the top of the 3rd, Ben Leopold from Wadsworth hit a triple. Caden Bates from Marlington then drove in Leopold with a single to right field to make the score 4-2.

 

In the top of the fourth, the Geauga/Medina All-Stars plated two runs on sacrifice flies by Kenston’s McKenna and Brennan Stobbs from Medina to even up the contest at 4-4.

 

However, the Mahoning/Stark All-Stars came right back with three runs of their own in the bottom of the fourth. 

 

Dylan Rouse from Canton Central Catholic singled to drive in 2 runs. Xavier Hamid from Massillon also got walked with the bases loaded to drive in a run.

 

Trailing 7-4 in the top of the seventh, Parker Munday from Kenston got a rally started as he walked to start the top of the seventh and scored on Brennan Stobbs triple.

The Geauga/Medina All-Stars got two more runs in the top of the seventh on sacrifice flies by Nate Hill and Caden Bates to tie the score at 7-7.

 

Due to a two hour time limit, the game ended in a 7-7 tie.

Player and Pitcher of the Year.

In addition to the all-star games, the NEOBCA Player of the Year Awards and the Pitcher of the Year Awards were also presented at Canal Park on June 28th.

The NEOBCA Division I Co-Player of the Year Awards were given to Nate Hill from Medina and Mason Eckelman from Walsh Jesuit.

The NEOBCA Division I Pitcher of the Year Award was presented to Ryan Piech from Walsh Jesuit.

The NEOBCA Division II Co-Player of the Year Award recipients were AJ Havrilla from Canfield and Evan Bottone from Bay. The NEOBCA Division II Pitcher of the Year Award went to Jameson Beck from Canfield.

Kirtland’s Adam Knaak and Perry’s Owen McKoon were the NEOBCA Division III Co-Player of the Year Award winners, while Manchester’s Owen Canter was named the NEOBCA Division III Pitcher of the Year.

D4

Nick Kandel from Hillsdale was the NEOBCA Division IV Player of the Year and Dylan Maninga from Lake Center Christian received the NEOBCA Division IV Pitcher of the Year Award.
