Munch Musings from E. 53rd and Hamm Avenue: Guardians Edition

Sunday’s 5-4 loss to the Brewers hurt…it hurt me, my sons, my guys I was at the game with, so it had to hurt the team. At this time, I do not even look to see how many games behind the Twins the Guardians are on June 26th. I look at the record and cut and dry this team needs to get to .500, go over .500 and build that gap. That equals success and a Central crown which means a trip to the post season!

It was painful also seeing Owen Miller (hitting .283) go 2 for 5 with 2 RBI including the game winner. Please do not complain he is gone. 2B is his position and that truly is NOT a position of need for the Guards. Since I hit you with Miller’s BA, please do not shove Stephan’s stats at me. He has not been good lately and if Tito has one flaw it may be loyalty and too much trust at times. The GUARDIANS head to KC then the North Side of Chicago for 3 games in each city and face it…Royals are awful, and Cubs are 37-39 while Cleveland is 37-40.

Sunday Progressive Field was electric when Naylor went yard in the 2nd and again when the Good Guys scored 3 in the 6th to tie the game. Yup we know how the story ended. We also know why #BaseballIsTheBest (Thanks Sarah Langs)! I was asking myself how could Aaron Civale be so good the 1st, 2nd 5th and 6th but plain awful in the 3rd and in the 4th…he walked the leadoff man (Truly a MUNCH ON SPORTS LAW of something you CANNOT do) who ended up scoring.

Tito has been taking some heat too for a few moves. PLEASE do not tell me he pinch ran Straw for Freeman and in doing so he subbed “speed for speed.” Straw is on another level when it comes to running the bases. Now I will question why Bell or even Fry did not hit for Myles in the bottom of the 10th with 2 on and 2 out. I am a BIG MYLES STRAW guy, but he looks defeated at the plate lately,

Bottom line: go at least 4-2 on the road trip. Sadly, the team will still be one under five hundo after that happens.

A very cool part of going to yesterday’s game was going with my sons and seeing some buds next to us and in front of us. Great to see Austin Love, a HUGE baseball fan and Will Burge too at the game and talk baseball with them. We met my oldest son at the game, and you guessed it…here comes EMO Munch. My youngest son went with me and YES driving down I flashed back to going with my Dad. It’s always special at the ballpark and no other sport gives you the feeling of going with family.

Remember to enjoy every sandwich and for the time being Adios Amigo…long may you run.
